Welcome to Self Care Sundays - Types of Self Care

If you couldn't tell by the title every Sunday, I will be making a post related to Self-Care. So, if you want to start implementing self-care in your life join me on this journey.

This week's topic is going to be...

Types of Self Care

There are many forms of Self Care, here are a couple of them:

  1. Physical
  2. Mental
  3. Emotional
  4. Spiritual
  5. Social
  6. Practical
  7. Lifestyle

Physical self-care is about taking care of your body on the inside and out. For an example, going for walks, staying hydrated and getting the right amount of sleep. Resting is a big part of your body health because without a good amount of sleep you will crash, same if you are not staying hydrated.

Mental self-care is something to keep your brain wheels spinning. Like solving a puzzle, reading a book, playing games like chess. Lately, I have been getting back into reading books, shoutout to booktok on TikTok. I love getting my books from Book of the Month, it’s one of the cheaper book subscriptions where they give you a choice of books to choose from every month based on what you prefer for about $15 a month.

Emotional self-care is something that soothes you like the most known thing is going to therapy, but that’s not the only thing that can heal you emotionally. Creating art, listening to music and my favorite is writing in a journal. I try to write in my journal daily, basically giving a summary of how my day went and how I felt throughout the day. Something that helps me and what I find fun is bullet journaling... if you haven’t heard of it check it out on TikTok!

Spiritual self-care is what you already think it is, a lot of people usually do this when they go to a place of worship. Some people might meditate, do yoga and simply being outside in nature, dedicating time for self-reflection. I know one thing I want to start doing is mediating. I feel as though I self-reflect already by writing in my journal.

Next is social self-care, which I would love to start doing more often with others like going to brunch with the girls. But other than that, social self-care can be going on dates or just simply making time to call your mom on a regular basis, which I find myself doing a lot.

Practical self-care is my favorite, it’s something I implement on my website and that is budgeting! We have many savings challenges and paycheck budgeting forms that is affordable and digital that you can have access to right way! Another way to practice practical self-care is organizing your home and being in a clean environment. That is something I strive to keep up in my home, having a clean organized area.

And finally, lifestyle self-care. This can be setting boundaries at work or your school environment. For an example, for me I’m blocking and turning off notifications to my job when I clock out of when I am enjoying my day off. I even like to take personal days also known as sick days when I simply just don’t feel like interacting with my work life. Also make sure you take your designated break; a lot of people like to work through their lunch and that is something I will NEVER do! Set those boundaries in those type of environments because you do not want to be carrying that workload home because it will never be worth it.

I feel like when it comes to starting yourself care journey it seems as one thing when truly as you can see its all-different kinds of self-care.  Self-care is something so little as relaxing, getting massages, getting your hair and nails done, literally anything that you enjoy. its everything in your life and body inside and out, from top to bottom.

Don’t even worry about trying to hit everything all at once, it’s a step-by-step process that you can start from anywhere you like.

The whole point of self-care is to reduce or get rid of anxiety, depression, stress, frustration and improve in concentration, increase your happiness and energy and so much more. It’s a personalized journey of what you make it.
